Mokume gane translates as “wood-grained metal”, and is the Japanese art of hand forging different types of metal into a spiral laminate. The metal billet is then acid etched to reveal the inherent grain. This time-intensive process produces remarkable patterns, which are capable of being shaped into a variety of accents, handles and buttons. Here, metal is shaped into the head for a snakewood walking stick.
