Frank Pollaro, President and Chief Executive Officer, founded the Company in 1988 at age 21. Frank demonstrated his interest in woodworking at a very early age. The son of a building demolition worker and a medical assistant, Frank was encouraged to pursue his artistic talents, which included design, drawing and building.
As a young man, Frank became interested in the master works of furniture designer Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann. He fell in love with the way Ruhlmann used ivory as an embellishment against rich, dark wood backgrounds. Fascinated by the natural colors and textures of exotic woods, he began to collect solid wood and veneer from all corners of the world, a passion that he has continued for more than 30 years. Today his collection contains over 80 species and the largest collection of rare woods in private hands.
Fueled by a developing passion for furniture history, he voraciously pursued the knowledge and techniques of 18th and 19th Century furniture makers. Methodical about recreating not only the forms, but the techniques of these masters, Frank became a self-taught Master Craftsman. Today, Frank and his team are the finest furniture makers in the world. Capable of replicating skills of a century ago, they are also masters of cutting edge materials and techniques.
Twenty-five years after founding Pollaro Custom Furniture, Frank’s work has been showcased in literally hundreds of publications and media. His furniture continues to win critical acclaim from leading designers and architects, who consider a Pollaro piece to be the crown jewel of their artistic interiors. Additionally, his furniture has won numerous awards for both design and craftsmanship.
Perhaps the most prestigious awards come from the clients that return year after year to expand their collection of Pollaro furniture. The majority of clients own more than three pieces of Pollaro furniture and have been clients for more than a decade.
In addition to the pursuit of challenging commissions, Frank also actively preserves his craft through teaching at leading furniture making programs throughout the country. In his personal time, he enjoys fishing, wine collecting and spending time in the garden with his wife Jennifer. Their son, Frank James, was born in 2014.
